Ink, Ink, Everywhere Ink
Monday Mind Dump
A lot of stuff moved around in my house over the last few days. Bookcases and tables shifted to more useful places, creating open spaces. That wasn’t me. That was my husband wanting to play games on the table rather than using it to stack things upon. Now there’s more shelves and our dogs are enjoying sprawling out on the floor.
Since I am about to start doing a LOT of inking, which I don’t have a ton of time for. Roughly two weeks to do two inked pieces for Bloodstone. Now, that shouldn’t be that hard, but I haven’t inked in a while. On top of that, I’m almost halfway through the secret project that’s due in August. I’ll also do illustrations for that one, but it’s just a small novel. ;)
I’ll also be writing while I’m doing that and of course, my other artistic obligations. So, I cleaned up my desk AGAIN. It’d gathered a lot of clutter over the past few months out of annoyance that I didn’t have enough room to set my desk up the way I wanted to. (Why aren’t there clip-on easels that are LOWER than the top of a desk?)
So, I cleaned out the two rolling carts I have, one of them from Ikea, one from Michael’s. I’m using the Ikea one because it’s a little bit sturdier. The other is now a charging station to go somewhere. Piled all of my art supplies into it to make it easy to get to, but what I couldn’t immediately find was…my ink bottles!
I use dip pens and some pentel brushpens. The brushpens take little cartridges, but I’ve figured out how to get them to use my Dr. Phil Martin’s Blackstar high carb ink, either through a refilled cartridge that I very carefully do by hand or just drop ink on the brush. I think I’m going to spend today penciling the images…as soon as I settle on the paper I’m using. Can’t seem to find my bristol, but I reminded myself…I prefer inking on my Canson XL Mix Media papers.
Heh, had no clue where they were and was going to have to dig through my daughter’s closet, then glimpsed a spiral. Yup. There it is. One 11 x 14 inch paper pad that I’ve used two pages in. Things I need to re-scan since I now have a scanner capable of scanning the entire surface over parts of it.
Have paper and pencils. Will ink! I love the way this particular ink sits on top of the paper and forms little hills.

Busy, busy!
I have started doing little 2.5 x 3.5 ATC/ACOE inked art to get back in the swing of trad art and they are small enough that I don't feel like I wasted anything if they turn out horrid, and still big enough that when they turn out good they are cute! It is so hard, I agree, when the creative space isn't right and you can't find anything! Glad you got a fresh start!
