MG Madness and Atrophy
Monday Mind Dump
One week into June and a lot of things that have evaded me are returning full force. Unfortunately, that’s not my stamina. I’m still lagging a little, but I get through my days. Just need my allergies to settle down so I stop waking up with a dry mouth all night. I shouldn’t have any issues with sleep apnea after losing weight…and kind of wonder if the tracheotomy and muscle loss aren’t the reasons.
*Does a quick web search* Oh. So sometimes it’s a treatment for sleep apnea via obstruction…or it can cause issues with an MSA event. Multiple System Atrophy. Not quite what I had, but also pretty close as I lost ALL of the muscle mass in my entire body. I know my esophagus is narrower after all that, so ick. Just something I have to get over. I have mouth tape that I can use. It’s just not fun putting it on because it is even less fun taking the overly sticky tape OFF. Still, if that’s the only way I can get a good night’s sleep, I need to do it.
Afterall, I have a lot of things on my plate right now. I’m in the going over edits phase on Bloodstone! It’s due to be published in August and I’ll be so happy to have a book out…and there will be another small novel in September at the latest, if I don’t get something else done BEFORE then. I’m eyeing the shorter projects. Collections or shorter MG novels..or these Fae Path novellas which are all around 40k after I revise them. Those are my prequels and I still want to SIT on them.
However, I’m about to finish up Glass Castles. The one that was supposed to be the start of the whole thing. Unfortunately, it works better as a character prequel. I really want to start the ACTUAL unnamed series that’s meant to be Classical like Blood Diamonds in focusing on TWO MCs. I am still juggling what to do with Wrong Turn at the Spring, since it’s a GOOD novel and would make a great introduction without the baggage (connections) the other series have which I want to keep under wraps. ;) If I release the wrong books too early, it’ll ruin other books.
Crossing Burned Bridges is the official series name of my primary MG Dragonfae Kids series. I had already written two novels in this series meant for YA, but will revise those two novels into six shorter MG novels. (I’ve had the story of Minerva and Kade in mind for a while. It’s supposed to start as MG and crossover into YA. Think like Harry Potter, not more adult series.) Those I will be shopping around AFTER I release standalone novels that won’t be part of a series. I’m still working through what story I want to cut my teeth on using Zanna.
I’d already referenced shorter versions of what I have in mind in the MG novels. In both cases, Zanna (Suzanna) and Minerva are second born princesses. They’re Soliel, and among the Soliel, younger sons and daughters are typically married off into other colonies to other royalty or high born. That’s just not going to happen for either of them, and maybe it’s better that way.
In ick news, Eye surgery on Wednesday for my right. Shouldn’t be as painful as my left was. Overall, it wasn’t as bad as the medicine injections. I recover faster.
In better news, checked on my insurance and saw that I’m close to meeting the deductible. So, called the surgery center to ask how much the next visit would be and I was informed that the deductible wasn’t met yet, but when it was met, I’d still be paying 50% of the costs…but…there was a credit on my account. That helps immensely. Looking at those bills was stressful due to just how much they cost that was discounted. Like..over $1k per visit was discounted.
I get some breathing room and hopefully get my eyes fully fixed ASAP!
