Percival
Boons and Banes Character File
Ah, yes, now we get to Percival, because every story needs a chaos gremlin. When he originally shows up, he’s a very depressed stallion carrying Roald to Magnolia Manor. She’s instructed to leave his bridle on, along with the bridle on the little mare that’s with him.
From the getgo, I knew who he was, even before he had a name. I knew his past, what he was going to do…and how angry he is. This little kid who was tricked into putting on an enchanted harness because he showed up at Roald’s home as a unicorn.
From the moment he appeared, it was this big, powerful bay horse with a slight draft build. Like a gypsy vanner, which I also used to pattern Gallant (Sept’s horse) after. This is prior to the vanner being an actual breed, but it doesn’t matter because Percival’s a horse…eh, a unicorn. A very big, violent unicorn with a wild streak.
Once freed, he turns into an impetuous boy who always has to have his nose into everything and is spoiling for a fight at all times. He’s watchful, protective, and of questionable parentage. Nobody knows more about him than he’s admitted…and he’ll keep it that way as long as he can.
Percival was one of the pieces for a strong found family arc. He has no one who will claim him. He’s annoying, troublesome, well-meaning…but a handful. Sept has a huge, wonderful family that’s welcomed in all these lost children…which he seems to attract like abandoned puppies and kittens. He has a purpose to fulfill…and nobody is going to stand in his way.
The first two books of the first Boons and Banes trilogy are available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited!
