Tech Problems For Tomorrow
Monday Mind Dump
(Because ChatGPT delivers free images that make me laugh. Yes, I could do this myself, but my eyes are very blurry.)
I had a dream. Far too many dreams, really. I should remember not to eat after 6pm, or maybe eat a much lighter meal.
In that dream, I was very stressed out over my new little hand computer being impossible to navigate. Yes. A hand computer. It was basically the size of two phones joined together like a book within a leather case like a journal. Very. Nice. It came with stickers, and I was befuddled about what to do with them, so I just randomly stuck them on one side.
It updated itself to Windows 11. Now, I currently USE Win 11 on both my laptop and desktop, which I also had in my dream. However, this system was entirely unusable as if it’d been made by programmers and not users. ;) Yes, the flaw of many UIs. Only this one, it only showed me directories and there were so MANY of them that I couldn’t FIND my Onenote files.
So I was stressing over: Where is Onenote? What am I going to do without it?! What about all my notes and stuff! Not to mention, where are Scrivener and my story files, as I realized that it would update on my laptop and desktop too.
I was fairly panicked and annoyed, then for some reason, Kneon and Geeky Sparkles from Clownfish TV portalled into my living room and we discussed the issue. I know it’s because they’ve been on this topic repeatedly for weeks. Win 11 is annoying.
I’m showing them the hand computer, very annoyed, and close it. THEN, I notice that the stickers that I’d randomly plastered on the cover had changed. Before, they were random icons. NOW, they’re identifiable icons like what would appear on my shortcuts, with the name of the program suddenly self-inscribed on them. The stickers did it to themselves. We’re marveling over the weird new technology, and I touch the one that says Onenote.
It pops open Onenote on the device! Okay, that’s awesome! Now I want one.
This was obviously a deep memory of the fabled Courier device that never made it to production. I always wanted one. Had one in my dreams. Woke up disappointed that I didn’t have said device.
This was also inspired by a conversation I watched concerning how much we depend on technology to do simple things. Things as simple as scanning a document. I have a program I use, like many do. It’s NOT the program that came with the scanner. I’ve never touched that one. Without the program, scanning is suddenly a daunting process.
Lots of things are like that. See the whole Onenote thing. I LOVE Onenote. I use it for everything. I also love Scrivener and if I had to write in Word or Google Notes I’d want to pull my hair out, as I find them both inferior to my established workflow as they do things I don’t need or ask for. Both constantly pester me to use AI to do things and I’m going: If I want to use AI, then I will CHOOSE to use it, not have it forced upon me.
That’s where I am today…hoping that Microsoft doesn’t go a step too far into the direction it’s going, because once it does, I’ll lose my workflow and have to adapt to another system, and that system will NOT be Apple.
