Writing Contests
Monday Mind Dump
Just the thing to jog me into doing more work. Because I don’t have enough. Several years ago, I heard about Inkfort Press’s Writing Derby. It looked amazingly fun. You signup to write a 10k+ novella over the summer and are randomly assigned a cover from a list over over a hundred. You go in and pick out your favorites and rank them. Then they assign them going down a list based on whomever is first getting their first pick. Whomever is next, might get their first pick if it wasn’t chosen, or the second one.
I filled in 20 rankings and got my primary pick. (I’m not allowed to tell you which one it is.) That’s part of it. We’re completely anonymous and not to discuss the derby entry so that it’s a completely level playing field for all entrants. Yes, we can plug the contest itself once the books are published for sale and the contest to sell the most begins, but we can’t tell which book is ours.
Not that it matters that much. ;) I don’t have a ‘reputation’ or anything at the moment. However, going to cover over my hallmarks in the advertising so you can’t tell it’s me. Of course, that also means I can’t just tell you which book it is until the sales are tabulated.
I don’t know about you, but I enjoy writing contests like this. For one thing, I get to write something I haven’t written before and haven’t really thought about. I’m super excited to get started, but I won’t be dropping any hints. That’s for my secret derbysona to do, which, btw, I won’t be sharing unless I’m sharing other people’s imposter accounts as well so you won’t know it’s me.
Looking forward to seeing how this goes! I got a long novella to write!
While I won’t talk about my story, I will talk about the process and promote the contest for y’all to see so maybe you can join in next year when the signup sheet goes live.

Sounds interesting, but when I went looking for it, I ended up on what looked like an Indonesian casino site. 😆
